Estate Planning

Reaching age 60 means that you
probably have another 20 or more years to enjoy. Planning for
what can happen during (and before) these years can bring a
measure of contentment with the knowledge that arrangements are
in place.
Here is how the planning
works and what can go wrong:
Powers of Attorney:
With them you give someone the
authority to act in your name concerning financial or medical
matters, but in the typical case, only when you are not able to
do so yourself.
A
conservatorship is a legal tool for
managing the property and affairs of someone who, unfortunately,
did not sign a power of attorney and can no longer do so.

Physical and emotional
abuse of seniors in nursing homes
can be prevented by a family's
constant monitoring of the care of a loved one. When mistakes
occur, though, a lawsuit may be the only resort.
Financial abuse
of elders occurs, all
too often, because of family members rather than strangers. It
can result in agonizing controversies which must be resolved in
the courtroom.
Retirement and estate planning
involves a team of financial and legal
advisers of which we are a member. We create the legal documents
which implement the plan you select.
Probate
is the process of
distributing the property of a deceased person. It need not be
difficult or expensive. But it does involve many legal steps.
When you engage us, you can
expect:
- Attention to feelings and
concerns
- Thoughtful planning for what is
needed
- Understandable documents
- Decades of experience
- Vigorous response when abuse
occurs
- As little or as much assistance
as you want in administering an estate
